Welcome to Jessamine County Schools! We'd be happy to have you as one of our substitutes.
Substitute Requirements
To be eligible to be a substitute teacher, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Teaching Certification, or
Bachelors' Degree in any area, or
High School Diploma and at least 20 years old
If you are not a certified teacher there are a few certification options:
Emergency Certificate (NOT eligible to be a Long-Term Substitute)
Requires a High School Diploma
Minimum age requirement of 20 years old
Emergency Subs are not allowed to work Full-Time or for more than 20 consecutive days per KY statute.
Five Year Certificate (must have at least this certificate to be a Long-Term Substitute)
Requires a bachelor's degree
Apply at KECS on your own, pay fee, answer character questions and must submit an official transcript.
This certificate makes you eligible to sub at any school district in the state.
Ten Year Certificate
You must hold, or have previously held, a valid KY or Out-of-State Teaching Certificate
Apply at KECS on your own, pay fee, answer character questions and must submit an official transcript.
This certificate makes you eligible to sub at any school district in the state.
Out-of-State certificate holders must submit a copy of their teaching certificate.
Rank will be issued based on the rank held at time of certification.
To be eligible to be a substitute instructional assistant, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Completed 2 years of study at an institution of higher education OR
Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree OR
Pass the Paraeducator test
